Austin, Texas. June 2026
Anzae Alexander II. An attempt To PR The 70.3.
The 2026 training season leads to Ironman Musselman 70.3 in Geneva, New York.
This race is meant to be fast, with eyes on the podium, and a finish time target of going sub 4:30. An ambitious performance like this requires some serious pace on each split. It requires extreme endurance, and quick and efficient transitions.
In 2025 Anzae raced Ironman Texas, placing 8th in his age group and making his first appearance at the Ironman World Championship in Nice, France. With this kind of achievement to build on, 2026 had to have bigger targets to aim for.

January to July Training Season
This season started in January, before the race calendar was even set. Before the race goals were even thought of. When you surround yourself with the racing community, and endurance training is part of your life style, you tend to make an effort to maintain a high level of fitness year round.
This way, you stay part of the group training sessions, the weekend morning long runs and bike rides, even when there is no race on the calendar. By February, the race calendar was set, and by march, the formal prep had begun. A structured training plan, to develop the strength of each discipline.
This training block included Supertri Austin, an olympic distance triathlon where Anzae raced with his new Cervelo P5 triathlon bike.

Musselman 70.3
Ironman Musselman 70.3 takes place in Geneva, a small city located in upstate New York. This region is also known for the Finger lakes, making it a summer destination to enjoy the lakes, vineyards, and in our case, the race course.
The swim is in a lake, followed by rolling hills on the bike course, as well as run course. With most of the race being nearby lakes, the views should be incredible.
Temperatures might vary, as they are listed in the mid 80's however last years reports indicated much higher temperatures. Too early to say if the Texas summer will play an advantage.

Time Splits
The numbers Anzae has to target for a sub 4:30:00 race performance.
Starting out with a 1.2 Mile Swim in Lake Seneca. With a target time of 30 minutes or less.
Next up, a 56 Mile Bike, out of Geneva and throughout the vineyards between Seneca and Cayuga Lake. With a target time as close to 2:20:00 as possible.
Lastly a 13.1 Mile Run along the bay of Geneva, with a target time 1:25:00.
These splits with 3 minute transitions would combine to a total time of 4:26:00.

Austin To Geneva
The flights are booked. This will be the first time in New York for Anzae and the Squadron Racing support crew. It will be a completely new environment, climate, and race course. From the looks of it however, it should be a beautiful race course with plenty of views.

The Countdown Begins
At the time of this blog, only 15 days remain until race day. The countdown and taper phase of the training block have begun. The recovery time through these next two weeks will enable all final the final fitness gains to build in and be ready for race day.
